Types of Touch Screen

A.Resistive Touch Screen
"

Resistive system screen color coated by a thin layer of metallic conductive and resistive to electrical signals. The purpose of which is conductive layer is a layer that is easy to deliver an electrical signal, whereas the resistive layer is a layer that holds the electric current. Both layers are separated by a transparent divider spots, so this layer must be separated from each other under normal circumstances. On the conductive layer is also in charge of electric current flowing as a current reference.

When there is a touch of both of these layers will be forced to immediately come into contact with each other physically. Because of the contacts between layers of conductive and resistive it will be an interruption in electrical current reference. The effects of this disorder on the conductive layer is a will there is a change electrical currents as a reaction from a touch event. Change the value of reference current is then reported to the controller for the process further.

Information last touches are mathematically processed by the controller so as to produce an accurate coordinates and the position of the touch. Then the information is integrated with other programs so that it becomes easy to use application.

Screen with this technology has the level of image clarity by 75% only, so that the monitor will seem less clear. Touch sensors of this type are very fragile and weak to touch objects that are somewhat sharp. This technology will not be affected by other elements outside such as dust or water, but will respond to all touch about it, either using your fingers directly or using another object such as a stylus. It is used for industrial purposes in the world such as in factories, laboratories, and more.

Resistive Touch Screen Specifications

* Visual on screen

Indoor: Very good.

Outdoor: Less optimal.

* Levels of sensitivity: It takes a little pressure, to receive a response from the finger (even gloves), the tip of the nail and a stylus pen. Suitable for handwriting recognition.

  * Accuracy: Quite keen to vary the size of the resolution, thanks to the pen sylus more accurate control of the menu, especially to support drawing and handwriting.

* Price: Quite expensive for many cell phone designs.

* Power of dirt: The surface is more soft, more quickly screen exposed to dirt. Required periodic calibration. It required a screen guard.

   * Cleanliness: With can be accessed by the end of the nail and a stylus pen to make the screen cleaner is relatively protected from fingerprints and fat that usually appear on the screen.

B.Capasitive Touch Screen
Capasitive touchscreen has a wrapper layer that is the key to how it works, ie packaging that is capasitive on the entire surface. Touchscreen panel is equipped with a wrapping layer made from indium tinoxide which could continue electric current is continuous, for then directed to the sensor.

This layer can utilize capacitive nature of the hand or the human body, and therefore this layer was employed as a touch sensor in this type touchscreen. When the layer is in normal status (without any touch of the hand), the sensor will be given an electric current value which is used as a reference. When your fingers touch the surface of this layer, then the reference value is changed because there are electric currents that changed the entrance to the sensor. Information from this event in the form of electrical current will be received by the sensors are forwarded to a controller. Position calculation process will begin here.

This calculation uses the position of the four-point sudur on touchscreen panel as a reference. When the calculation results obtained, the coordinates and the position of the last touch to the well-known. Finally, information from these points will be integrated with other programs to run an application.

Capasitive new touchscreen can work if the touches against him came from conductive objects such as fingers. Display screen has a clarity of up to about 90%, making it suitable for use in a variety of purposes interactions in the general public such as in restaurants, electronic kiosks, the location of Point Of Sales, and more.

Capasitive Touch Screen Specifications

    * Visual on screen

Indoor: Very good.

Outdoor: Very good.

    * Levels of sensitivity: More responsive to the touch of a finger, can not respond to the glove material, the tip of the nail and a stylus pen. Not suitable for handwriting recognition.
    * Accuracy: Quite accurate to a few pixels, the accuracy is also influenced by the size of the fingertips of users.
    * Price: More expensive between 10% to 50%.
    * Power of dirt: The screen is more resistant to the effects of impurities.
    * Cleanliness: Faster exposed to dirt, but the material glass is also much faster and easier to clean.

C.Surface Wave Touch Screen
Touchscreen technology utilizes ultrasonic waves to detect events in the surface of the screen. In the touchscreen monitor We have two transducers, the sender and receiver of ultrasonic signals. Also equipped with a reflector that serves as a deterrent for ultrasonic waves remain on the monitor screen area. Both transducers are installed in all four sides, two vertical and two horizontal. When he touched the touchscreen panel, there are parts of the wave is absorbed by the touch, such as hindered by the hand, stylus, keys, and more. The touch had made changes in the form of waves emitted.

Changes in ultrasonic waves that occur subsequently accepted by the receiver and translated into electrical pulses. Further information on the touch had been transformed into a form of data to be forwarded to the controller for further processing.

Data generated from this touch of course is the data about the position of your hand that touches the ultrasonic signal. If this is done continuously and there are many ultrasonic wave sensor that touches on the media, then be a touchscreen device that you can use.

This technology does not use a metallic coating material but a layer of glass, the touchscreen display of this type are able to continue lighting up to 90 percent, making it much clearer and brighter than the resistive touchscreen. Without the sensor layer also makes the touchscreen of this type become stronger and more durable because there will be no layers that can be damaged when in touch, when exposed to water, oil, dust, and more.

The disadvantage is the performance of the touchscreen can be disturbed by elements such as dust, water, and other solid objects. Few there is dust or other objects attached on top of it then touchsreen can detect it as a touch.Ultrasonic sensors will of its work properly. Touchscreen this type suitable for use in computer training room, indoor use to display information with a very clear and sharp, the presentation in the room, and more.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the types of touchscreen technology. There are 3 types of touchscreen you have explained here. A bonus for me the last one because I don’t even know that before. Resistive touchscreen is being coated with a metallic conductive layers. It is usually of 2 layers separated by a transparent divider spots. We can use either our finger or a stylus pen and it will give us a high visual on screen when we use it outdoor. The second is the capacitive touchscreen which has indium tin oxide layer of screen. It has a electro-conductive material which stores an electrical charge on the device. This makes the touch screen to function properly. The only way to perform the screen is by using our finger tips. It is because only human body is producing an electrode. We can see a high definition on screen by using it in indoor or outdoor. This is more expensive than the first one. The Surface Wave Touch Screen is new for me. It is good for me to add a new knowledge about this touchscreen technology. I am glad that I found your blog.
